Once you have written a resume containing more than one page that means you’ve got enough experience and have something to propose to the employer. If that’s not true – you’ve gone too far with details. Let’s clear up this situation.

For several years one-page resumes was considered to be of the ideal-length standard. But such stereotype has been broken recently, because of a new era of resumes that are being read online so they don’t need to be printed or copied. Experts from Career Masters Institute and the Professional Resume Writers and Research Association completely second the opinion, that two-page resumes distinguish their authors efficiently from the crowd. That fact, that nowadays employers prefer to invite to an interview those candidates whose CV consists of two pages for a more professional position, is a great impulse for all CV writers to revise their resume length. Latest surveys in recruiters’ preferences have shown a significant correlation between the length of resume and the high of a position, an employee is applying to. Therefore, for example, while writing a safety professional resume try to make it at least one page. If one expects to find a tutoring job in a higher education establishment, he needs to write more than 1,5 pages.

But if you are going to get all your professional achievements into one page, there are some rules, which shouldn’t be broken:

  • 10.5-11.5 point type is the most readable(try not to decrease this limit with the view of making your CV shorter)
  • 0.7-1 inch margins are optimal
  • white space should be left –that makes your CV more attractive

Although some organizations ask for one-page resumes that means that they need only strictly relevant to the job they are offering information. Don’t forget about that fact and try just to give briefly all the respective data answering the requirements, given in vacancy description. Such CVs are known as summary resumes and should include such points:

  • education (written in tabular form, beginning with the highest degree)
  • work experience (in reverse chronology)
  • skills (only those matching for the vacancy)
  • personal details (just strictly necessary)

There is only one, but very important rule: all the paragraphs should perfectly match the required structure, all unnecessary details should be deleted. So reread one more time requirements and leave out all the items, in which you are uncertain.
