If you’ve been to a few interviews of late, you know that you might be asked to share a success story.
The cheat’s version or simply the easy way to identify your best success stories is to think back over your career to-date.
1. REVISIT YOUR PAST SUCCESSES:
Identify days you went home and said ‘wow, now that was a good day!’, and ask yourself:
What made it such a good day?
At what specific moment did I feel I was operating in my element or in my strengths?
· Where was I? (situation)
· What was I doing…? (task/action)
· What happened that triggered this feeling? (result)
2. VISUALIZE YOUR PAST SUCCESSES:
Now take a minute, close your eyes and revisit that professional moment.
You’ll know if you are in the moment because you’re likely to “feel it”.
Your body language will switch and you’ll probably feel your shoulders relax.
The idea is to identify exactly how you were operating in your strength.
And what does all of this say about me? (strength)
Later when you share the story in an interview, reverse it:
strength – situation – task/action – result…
or situation – task/action – result – strength
And know that your success story will be mirrored in your body language.
